Our favourite early and late summer British wildflowers!

1. Cornflower

Bold and bright cornflowers are annual flowers known for their vibrant blue colour, although you may also see white, red, pink and purple versions too. They bloom from June to September, keeping your garden or home nice and colourful right until the very end of summer. Cornflowers flower best in sunny conditions, so keeping them in a bright spot is ideal. They’re also great pollinators, attracting bees, butterflies and even small birds too.

2. Honeysuckle

The sweet scented honeysuckle is very popular in the UK and easy to spot! They can be found growing wildly in woodlands, attracting bumblebees and butterflies from June-September. And they’re one of the official birth month flowers for June! Honeysuckles also have a long history of superstition associated with them. It was once believed that if you planted them around your home it would bring good luck and keep evil spirits and witches away.

3. Sunflowers

Who doesn’t love bright and cheery sunflowers? We certainly do! And as they flower from July-October you can enjoy these lovely, sunny yellow flowers even as we head into autumn. As you can probably tell from their name, sunflowers adore the sun. Their heads actually follow the sun during the day so they can soak up all of the vitamin D. 4. Hydrangeas

A favourite in many people’s homes and gardens, the bright and fluffy hydrangea is a real show stopper. Blooming from mid-summer through to the end of the year, you’ll have plenty of time to spot these stunning flowers. With their wide spectrum of pretty colours from pink and purple to blue, white and green it’s no wonder why they’re so popular. They’re also used a lot in bridal bouquets as they smell amazing and generally symbolise love, affection, enthusiasm and understanding.

5. Japanese anemone

Japanese anemone flowers are pretty little white or pink flowers that bloom from July until October. Elegant and long lasting these flowers are easy to look after and will add a little something extra special to your bouquets or just planted in your garden. If you’re looking for these when you’re out and about, you’ll most likely find them on a coastal walk or in sunny meadows where they like to spread and blanket the area with their lovely cup-shaped flower heads.

6. Dahlia

Dahlia flowers are well-known for being big, bold and beautiful! Blooming from mid-summer through to early autumn, these flowers will bring bursts of colour to your home that you can enjoy for a long time. And with a wide choice of colours, shapes and sizes available, they’re super versatile and unrivaled in any display. Dahlia’s are also great flowers for any late summer weddings as they symbolise commitment and an everlasting union.

7. Lily

We’re completely obsessed with lilies here at Bloom & Wild and have some lovely lily bouquets that really stand out. These gorgeous flowers are late summer bloomers that will look their best from August-September. With many different varieties of lilies you can expect to find at least some of them out in the wild. 8. Stocks

As the most fragrant flower around, stocks are wonderful to display around the home for a sweet, fresh scent. And with a wide range of colours like pink, red, white, blue and peach, they’ll certainly brighten up the garden. They bloom all throughout summer and may last until early autumn if looked after properly. With their iconic fragrance and a meaning of happiness we, of course, include them in many of our summer flower bouquets!
