Refresh your home office decor in five easy steps

1. Give it a good declutter
The first thing you’ll want to do when refreshing your home office decor is get rid of any clutter. We’re talking old office supplies, and all those bits you’ve stacked on your desk and around the room (because there’s nowhere else to put them). After all, a busy space leads to a busy mind.
Want to know our handy, clutter-proof trick? Fill any empty spaces with personal touches, like an indoor plant (quiet corners are the perfect spot for our Kentia Palm) or a desk lamp. It may sound counter-intuitive but trust us – your home office will thank you for it.

2. Add a pop of colour
Now that we’re spending more time in our home offices, there’s been a shift towards ones that are full of life. Ones that help boost creativity and productivity. And an easy way to do that is by switching up your colour scheme.
If you’re looking to make a big change to your workspace, an accent wall is a good shout. They can change the look and feel of an entire room. Or, you can amp up the colour through smaller features. Our dried Dawn bouquet, with its subtle yellow colour palette, will give any room a zing of energy.

3. Inject some interest
For many of us, our home offices are where we’ll spend most of our time during the week. So it’s important to create a space we’ll enjoy being in.
Think about how you can make it your own (you’ll want to get your interior designer hat on for this). Maybe you could start a gallery wall and fill it with inspiring pictures. Or, if you have a small home office, why not make better use of your vertical space with some floating shelves? You could even pop a fun plant on one, like our Trailing Monstera.

4. Play with scents
Of all our home office ideas, this tip is our favourite. Because it’s so underrated. It’s so easy to forget what an important role scents have on our minds.
To get the best result for you, you’ll first need to think about your goal. Different scents will create different work environments. Want to be uplifted and invigorated while you work? Opt for something minty or citrusy. Need to give your memory a recharge? Cinnamon-based scents are for you. Looking for a way to soothe your workspace? We can’t recommend eucalyptus enough (our Becca is full of it!).

5. Bring the outside world in
You know how good you feel after a walk in nature? There’s a reason for that – flowers and plants have been scientifically proven to have a positive effect on our wellbeing. So we can’t think of a better room than a home office to fill with lots of lovely greenery. Not sure where to start? We’d recommend one with air purifying powers, like our Peacock Plant. It’ll make the perfect office desk buddy.
You’ll also want to make sure that you’re filling the room with natural light too. So don’t forget to throw open the curtains as you start your day. Small windows? No problem. Mirrors can help bounce sunlight around your office area.
