Summer storage tips for our tasty treats

While we may thrive in the warm summer weather, the same can’t always be said for edible gifts sent in the post.

Don’t worry though – we take extra care to make sure they arrive looking (and tasting) their best. Like, delaying deliveries on particularly hot days so they don’t turn up in a bad way. And sending ice packs with some of our baked gifts.  There are small steps recipients can take to keep them fresher for longer too.

How to store chocolate

Chocolate generally prefers a nice room temperature. It tastes its best when it’s not too hot or too cold – between 12-26 Celsius.

Over the summer, we’d recommend checking whether someone will be in before choosing a delivery date – even if you’ve picked a letterbox gift. This will make sure it hasn’t sat anywhere too warm for long.

After unboxing the chocolates, it’s usually fine to pop them in a cool dark place i.e. a kitchen cupboard. Though, on particularly hot days, try storing them in an airtight container in the fridge instead. The container will stop them from absorbing the smell of other foods and preserve their beautiful flavour.

When you’re ready to eat them, be sure to take them out of the fridge and let them sit for an hour or so. That way, they can warm up to room temperature.

How to keep cakes and brownies fresh

Like with our chocolate gifts, we’d recommend picking a day when someone’s home for delivery of our cakes and brownies. Though we include ice packs with some of these gifts on extra hot days, it’s best that they’re properly stored as soon as they arrive.

Lots of our baked treats, like our Afternoon Tea Set, Letterbox Brownies and Lemon Drizzle Cake, are made fresh without any artificial preservatives. So you should treat them as you would a home bake.

Once unboxed, pop them into the fridge in a sealed container. Then, before you eat them, let them warm up to room temperature. Depending on the product, this can take up to a few hours.
