Flower care FAQs
Why are some of my flowers in bud?
We send our flowers in bud to make them last longer, and to make sure our blooms are the freshest you’ll find
Cutting out the middleman means you get to enjoy them in your home for longer. This means they won't arrive looking like their photograph yet, but watching them bloom over 24-48 hours is so pleasing.
Why do my roses look sad? We do intentionally keep the 'guard petals’ on our roses as this protects them during transit. These are the oldest and tough outer petals which can make the flower look tired and brown. However if you gently remove the outer 2-3 petals you'll reveal the new and soft petals inside. This also helps your flower to begin opening up once it's been trimmed and popped into some water.
How long should my flowers last? We prepare and post each bouquet soon after it’s picked, so you only receive the freshest of flowers. Because we skip many of the steps of the traditional flower supply chain, our flowers last longer than other brands. Each flower has a different vase life but we’d expect each bouquet to be enjoyed for at least 7 days or longer. This is of course dependant on how the flowers are cared for.To find out how best to care for your blooms, take a look at our handy care tips.
Why are my flowers droopy?
Your flowers will be thirsty when you receive them. First things first, trim a good 3-5cm off the stems and put them into a clean vase with 1 litre of water and your flower food. Choose a vase that will support the stems (one with a narrow neck will prop up your stems best) and use your foliage to create a framework that will support the more delicate stems while they rehydrate. They will start to perk up within a few hours, but possibly need a good 24 hours to rehydrate fully.
What vase should I use for my flowers?
We recommend starting with a vase that’s about 8-9cm in diameter, which is smaller than you might think but helps to make your bouquet look fuller. Your vase should be 1/3 of the height of your stems, so don’t be afraid to trim them down to size if you use a short vase!
How to make my flowers last longer?
Start off with a clean vase.
Add the contents of the first flower food sachet into the vase. The flower food sachet contains all the nutrients your flowers need and can increase vase-life by up to 60%.
Remove all the lower leaves so that there are none in the water.
Cut 2-3cm off each stem (and repeat every few days).
Be sure to keep the water topped-up. When the water becomes discoloured, change it.
