You’ll love the new way we’re sending tulips

This winter, we’ve started sending our tulips without cutting their bulbs off. Sounds like a simple change, right? But the benefits are revolutionary. And we’re really excited about it. Here’s why we’re doing it...

1. So ours are the freshest on the market

All our flowers are picked from the farm and sent straight to you. But tulips tend to get floppy on their travels. We wanted to stop this happening, and realised that keeping the bulbs on will nourish your tulips en route so they won’t look tired at the other end!

2. So they grow taller

3. So you can grow more tulips!

Tulips keep growing in water, especially if you keep the bulbs on. So if they look short when they arrive, they’ll soon catch up with your other flowers.

Now for the bit we’re really excited about. You can cut off and replant your bulbs to try and grow more flowers. Find out how below.

Your tulip questions, answered

“How do I remove the bulbs?”

It’s so easy! Just cut the stem at an angle about 1-2cm above the bulb. Then pop your stems into your vase like normal.

“How can I plant them?”

This is the fun bit.

Find a small planter, fill it with multi-purpose soil and make a little well in the middle.

Then pop your bulbs into the well and cover with a few centimetres of soil until they’re completely buried.

Remember to give it a small cupful of water every week. You want the soil to always feel damp but never waterlogged. So use this as a guide for how much water to give yours. And then you wait.

“Can I keep the bulbs on?”

Absolutely! Popping your tulips straight into a clear vase with their bulbs still on looks so Scandi-cool. And will mean your bouquet gives more vase life!
